BDRP™ Rotary Shaft Seal Sizes

BDRP-brand rotary shaft seals are designed to operate hydrodynamically when differential pressure acts in either axial direction, with relative rotation occuring in either circumferential direction. The seals have been tested with 1,000 psi (6.89 MPa) at 466 sfpm (2.37 m/s) and with 1,500 psi (10.34 MPa) at 206 sfpm (1.05 m/s). The ability to operate hydrodynamically regardless of pressure direction makes these seals a candidate to be used as a rotary control device seal (RCD seal) or as a hydraulic swivel seal.

BDRP seals™ incorporate an elastomer seal body that is lined with a plastic layer that improves extrusion resistance. When installed, the compressed elastomer layer loads the plastic layer against the shaft, to initiate sealing. Unlike our KLS-brand rotary seals, the hydrodynamic wave geometry of the BDRP seal™ engages that shaft even in the absence of differential pressure. This means the hydrodynamic pumping related leakage of a BDRP seal will be higher than a KLS® seal in low differential pressure conditions. This hydrodynamic leakage occurs only during rotation.

Like the KLS-brand rotary seals, when a BDRP seal is used as an RCD seal, it should be protected from abrasives by an outboard lip seal, with lubricant between the seals pressure-balanced to the pressurized drilling fluid.

Contact us to discuss implementing BDRP seals in your rotary shaft seal assembly. Additional sizes can be furnished, subject to a one-time tooling charge to help to defray associated engineering, machining and set-up expenses. Purchase orders and requests for BDRP high pressure seal quotes should be sent to the attention of Seal Sales via e-mail, or by fax at 281-240-0255
