Technology and Specialized Skills

Kalsi Engineering staff includes experts in solid mechanics, elasticity/plasticity, fracture mechanics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Kalsi Engineering maintains a wide suite of analytical software such as ANSYS® mechanical, ANSYS CFX, ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB®, Mathcad, and SOLIDWORKS. Kalsi Engineering also maintains a fleet of self-developed software such as KVAP, CVAP, and LiFE, which are used in domestic and International nuclear power plants.

Kalsi Engineering staff includes experts in performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI), Couple Thermal-structural Analysis, and Rigid Body Dynamics.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Kalsi Engineering has the technical capability to perform a wide range of Finite Element Analyses. Kalsi Engineering personnel integrate core principles in structural mechanics, fatigue analysis, and fracture mechanics with state-of-the-art Finite Element Analysis software to ensure reliable results.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Kalsi Engineering is capable of modeling internal and external flows of a single or two-phase medium. We have integrated personnel with core understanding of fundamental fluid mechanics, compressible flow, viscous flow, boundary layer, and potential flow with industry leading CFD software to help you converge quickly on your CFD predictions.

Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI)

Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) is an analysis involving the coupled response of a structure to flowing fluid. FSI analyses require sophisticated computer resources, state-of-the-art software, and a superior engineering work force. All three are available at Kalsi Engineering.

Coupled Thermal-Structural Analysis

Thermal loads can distort a component, increase stress values, and lead to failures. A coupled Thermal-Structural Analysis requires sound understanding of heat transfer and structural mechanics. Both are key strengths at Kalsi Engineering.

Past Projects

Some past projects requiring analytical services to support fitness for service, operability evaluation, root-cause analysis, novel design development, and design modification are:

  • Main Steam Isolation Valve and Main Steam Check Valve Evaluation
  • Failure analysis of a main steam safety relief valve due to fretting/sliding wear
  • Dynamic modeling of safety relief valve oscillation due to pressure fluctuations
  • CFD modeling of vortex structures at the inlet of a dead branch
  • Evaluation of required thrust to operate a Y-pattern globe valve under a high energy line break
