Axially Constrained Kalsi™ Seal Sizes

Axially Constrained Seals™ are designed for applications having little or no differential pressure, such as the pressure compensation pistons in oilfield mud motors. Both ends of the seal contact the walls of the gland during operation. This eliminates the need for axial spring load in zero differential pressure conditions.

Axially Constrained Seals are available in two different product series. The 462 series is the current edition of our original axially constrained seal™. Although many of the available sizes of 462 series seals have received performance enhancements over the years that are directed at higher temperature operation, all 462 series seals have the same lubricant consumption rate as the original product offering. The 673 series fits in the same groove as the 462 series, but has a greater lubricant consumption rate and better resistance to abrasives in reversing pressure conditions.

Table 1 identifies 462 series HNBR seals that are available from existing tooling. Many of the seals in Table 1 can also be provided in -30 FKM for improved chemical resistance. Table 2 identifies 462 series seals having an updated geometry that has been successfully tested up to 340°F (171°C) with the -30 FKM material. Table 3 identifies 673 series seals. The 673 series seals can be manufactured in HNBR for service up to 302°F (150°C), or in the -30 FKM material for service up to 340°F (171°C). Additional sizes of Axially Constrained Seals can be furnished, subject to a one-time tooling charge to help defray associated engineering, machining, and setup expenses.
