Join us at the 2017 Offshore Technology Conference, May 1-4 (Houston)

Kalsi Engineering invites you to visit with us at booth 2100 during the 2017 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC).  This year’s show is May 1 to 4 at the NRG Center in Houston, Texas. Click here to register for a complimentary multiday pass.

Rotary Seals – Since the last OTC, we have continued to expand the performance envelope of large diameter high pressure shaft seals, with a special emphasis on rotating control devices (RCDs). One example of our continuing commitment to the industry is our investment in a fixture for testing full-size RCD seals in high pressure conditions. The fixture tests two 10.50” (266.7mm) rotary seals at a time, at differential pressures up to 3,500 psi, with or without our patented laterally floating seal carrier arrangement. This large diameter testing also provides useful insights for other high pressure applications, such as cement heads and hydraulic swivels.

Through our new RCD seal testing program, we have documented the inherent high pressure rotary sealing capacity of our plastic-lined seals, by testing them with a relatively large 0.020” (0.51mm) radial extrusion gap clearance between the shaft and a conventional non-floating seal carrier. We have also evaluated the ability of our floating seal carrier arrangement to improve the high pressure sealing capability of all-elastomer rotary seals. The floating carrier allows the smallest practicable extrusion gap, which allows the rotary seal to withstand higher pressures for longer periods of time. Additionally, we have developed innovative torsional stability enhancements for large diameter seal carriers, and improvements to the pressure capability and frictional characteristics of the associated force-balancing seals.

Jarring Software – JarPro™ is a general-purpose jarring analysis program used by leading jar manufacturers, oil companies, and equipment/service companies. It helps to reduce the cost of freeing stuck drillstring by facilitating selection and placement of jars and accelerators, and also provides detailed time histories of jarring impact. The software is also capable of analyzing the effects of multiple jars.  It has an intuitive user interface, and can be customized to fit the needs of your organization, and to include your equipment in pulldown menus.

Consulting Engineering – In addition to our jarring software and rotary seal product line, Kalsi Engineering offers a wide variety of consulting engineering services, including the design of testing apparatus for the oilfield industry.  Our staff has an outstanding background, and an accomplished record of practical mechanical engineering solutions for a variety of mechanical equipment used in the oilfield and petrochemical industries. Examples of equipment we have worked with include downhole tools, wellhead and drilling equipment, pressure vessels and piping components, reactor vessels, heat exchangers, valves, actuators, and pumps.  We have two laboratories dedicated to mechanical, structural, and environmental testing.  We also offer an indoor flow loop testing facility.

We have special expertise in the area of validated, state-of-the-art FEA and CFD solutions to some of the most complex problems involving fluid/structure/thermal interactions. Our two super computers can efficiently handle very large scale non-linear problems exceeding 100 million degrees of freedom.
