The complete seal part number consists of the basic part number plus the material dash number plus CW (clockwise) or CCW (counter-clockwise), designating the shaft rotation direction; for example: 432-8-11 CW. The shaft rotation direction is determined relative to the lubricant end of the seal.

Figure 3-2 of the Kalsi Seals Handbook, Rev. 1 has the recommended gland details.  Gland width recommendations are based on 350° (176°C) seal temperature, and were developed to minimize seal to gland clearance to inhibit skew-induced wear of seals in low differential pressure applications, and do not take media-related swelling into account.  Increased gland width may be desirable if significant swelling is anticipated; see Section 3.4.  Since the gland widths in the table above may result in axial confinement of the seal at high temperature, it may be beneficial to increase the gland width to accommodate the thermally-expanded width of the seal in high differential pressure applications, in order to achieve reduced interfacial contact pressure.  Such gland widths can be based on the seal width predictions in Appendix C.

*** Non-standard cross-sectional size

PN 432-8-* has a wider footprint compared to PN 432-4-*.
